5 Reasons Why We Love La Siesta Organic Cotton Hammocks
Posted by Celtic Sustainables on 15th Jun 2018
We now sell La Siesta Organic Cotton Hammocks. Here are the reasons why!
- Beautiful, Traditional and Strong
La Siesta Hammocks are beautifully made using traditional South American techniques. Quality workmanship, comfort and durability are synonymous with their products. All hammocks and hammock chairs are stress tested before they reach us. They are truly a place to relax. - Organic
The Cotton is organic and therefore grown without the use of harmful pesticides. Therefore bees, the soil, groundwater, rivers and sea, along with the health of the farmers are all protected. Did you know that about 16% of all the insecticides and 6.8% of all herbicides used are applied during the cultivation of conventional cotton (even though cotton production only takes up 2.5% of the Earth’s agricultural land)! - Good Wood
All the wood is used with the range is FSC Certified. This means that the trees used to make the hammock frames and stands have been managed according to strict sustainability standards. You can even track the origins of the wood used on the spreader bars and hammock chairs using the FSC tracking code on each one. - Family Values
La Siesta is a family business and shares our values and awareness of responsibility for human beings and nature alike. They too want to create a better world for our children and grandchildren. Fairness, transparency and respect are part of their identity and decision making processes. - Giving Back
When you purchase a Copa Double Hammock (featured) or a BossaNova Kingsize Hammock, La Siesta gives €5 (EUR) to the Dito Escolinha project in Brazil to support street children by providing football training and equipment at a Beach Soccer Academy. In an area of high poverty, this project provides children and teenagers with better prospects by offering them alternatives to a criminal lifestyle and drugs. Every minute spent at Dito Escolinha is not spent on the streets.
Background:
We fell in love with the La Siesta range of Hammocks at a Trade Show. At the end of a long day of walking around vast exhibition halls of frankly not particularly inspiring or sustainable products we were desperately seeking out something that would fit with our promise of Good for you, your Home & the Planet.
Passing the La Siesta stand we were drawn by the beautiful colours or maybe it was the promise of resting our tired feet, perhaps even a power nap. There was no way, we may have said out loud, that we could possibly include them within our range.
On closer inspection we discovered their soft and luxurious organic cotton hammocks, FSC wooden frames and charitable giving. The rest, as they say, is history.
