Colour by Nature - Inspired by Werner's Nomenclature of Colours
in Collaboration with the Natural History Museum
Before photographs and colour spectrometers, explorers had difficulty describing the colour of the new animals and plants they had found when they got home. That is until Abraham Gottlob Werner created his great book the "Nomenclature of Colours" in the 1814. In this taxonomy he created a standardised colour scheme that allowed scientific observers, including Charles Darwin, to describe without ambiguity, the chromatic differences of the things they had seen on their adventures around the world.
Over two centuries since its publication, Werner's Nomenclature of Colours is still a treasured tool for scientists and artists alike. It is held in the rare book library at the Natural History Museum.
This year, 2019, Farrow & Ball inspired by Werner's book, have created 16 new colours to bring the true colours of nature into your home.
Each shade in the Colour by Nature palette is just a meticulourly identified, classified and researched as those that make up Farrow and Ball's core colours. They are blended with an eco-friendly water base that is low VOC.
