Lime Green site visit - May 2022

Lime Green site visit - May 2022

Posted by Ian, Celtic Sustainables on 18th May 2022

After a couple of years of being locked away in our home offices, and only speaking to suppliers via video calls it was great to finally get out and visit Lime Green’s centre of operations. The main offering from the forward-thinking manufacturer is a full range of ready mixed lime mortars, plasters and grouts, developed and manufactured onsite, by their knowledgeable technical team. The products are a modern development of traditional lime mortars and have been refined to perform more efficiently in today’s demanding building industry, whilst retaining the breathability and flexibility that lime products are noted for. There are no nasty chemicals or Portland Cement additions in the products, so they’re eminently suitable for a wide range of situations, from historical building restoration to healthy breathable new-build properties.

Lime Green also offer a wood fibre insulation system known as Warmshell, and the first item on the day’s agenda (after the mandatory cuppa of course), was a presentation about the benefits of woodfibre boards as an insulator.

Next on the list was a tour around the manufacturing plant, led by Lime Green’s extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic Technical Manager Ed. The bespoke manufacturing plant spans multiple floors of the building and we started the tour by climbing several flights of stairs. This took us to the central level of the building, halfway up the 23 silos which feed various limes, aggregates and Pozzolans into the computer-controlled mixing station. The next area on the visit was the packaging area with an impressive machine that has the capability of filling a tonne bag in a matter of seconds, and then we finished the tour via the research area and finally the warehouse.

Lunch ensued, which was a nice buffet spread which included vegetarian and vegan platters and being the only vegan there I got a whole platter to myself – thank you lime green.

Another cuppa to wash it all down and we were off to the demo area where we were shown the methods of cutting and fixing the Warmshell boards, followed by an application of the Lime Green Solo one coat plaster. To finish up Simon mixed up some of the Lime Green Ultra insulated render, to show us how thickly it could be applied, we were offered the opportunity to get some plaster onto the demonstration panel. I don’t think I did too badly, only a bit went down the front of my jacket and I’m pretty sure the plaster on the floor was from the person who went before me!

All in all, a great day, which was very informative. We met some great people and came away with an even greater level of knowledge and confidence in the products from Lime green.
