Laid and Drawn Horsehair is a traditional additive for lime renders and base-coats to help improve tensile strength and reduce cracking due to shrinkage.
The hair should be teased into the mix, a very small amount at a time to ensure complete integration. Adding in larger quantities will cause the hair to clump in the mortar.
It is definitely advisable to use hair or a synthetic alternative for walls and ceilings with a lath or cob background.
Hair should be used in the first two coats but not in the top setting (finishing) coat.
Approx. 6 bundles of hair per Kilo.
