The Keim Royalan mineral silicate based paint system has been developed to withstand unusually harsh conditions. Ideal for exposed locations and areas where pollutants and contaminants are an issue.
Keim Royalan's crystaline makeup allows vapour to pass freely from the substrate through the coating, whilst protecting against the ingress of moisture. Breathability can be up to 96%, which eliminates the cracking and blistering common with conventional paints. It's thermal expansion coefficient is similar to mineral substrates which reduces the possibility of cracking.
Keim Royalan is made from Potassium Silicate and natural earth oxides, which makes it highly compatible with mineral substrates. The potassium silicate binder reacts with the substrate creating a strong bond even on ceramic surfaces, tiles and brickwork.
The microcrystalline structure of Royalan provides a high light reflectance surface, appearing bright and vibrant, even on dull days. It is also UV stable and does not fade over time. Unaffected by acids and pollution Keim Royalan protects the substrate from contaminants such as acid rain. It doesn't attract dirt from the atmosphere because it does not retain an electrostatic charge. Algae and fungal growth are also kept at bay by the paints alkaline composition.

General Preparation considerations for all surfaces
The key to optimum performance with Keim products is preparation prior to decoration.
- Remove flaking and unstable material back to a sound edge.
- Check that any remaining coatings are stable and feather the edges with sand paper.
- Flat down any shiny surfaces with sandpaper to create a good key
- Remove any Mould and Fungal growth and treat the affected area with Keim Algicid.
- Repair cracks with Keim Spachtel filler
- Ensure air and surface temperatures are between 5-30ºC
Clean all surfaces with clean cold water to remove dirt, dust and contaminants. Leave surfaces to dry naturally.
Please note: Consumption rates are offered for guideline purposes only. For more accurate measures, site trials should be conducted.
Previously Painted Surfaces
Follow the general preparation guidelines.
Specific considerations for previously painted surfaces.
The first coat of Keim Royalan Grob will obliterate any hairline cracks. Any larger cracks over 1mm in width should be filled using Keim Spachtel.
Application
Apply a base coat of Keim Royalan Grob diluted with approximately 20% by weight Keim Royalan Dilution. Use a brush or roller and work well into the surface. Allow the Grob coat to dry for at least 12 hours before applying a top coat of Keim Royalan in the chosen colour.
Typical consumption rates for previously painted surface (smooth)
First Coat
Keim Royalan 0.2 kg per square metre
Keim Royalan Dilution 0.04 lt per square metre
Second Coat
Keim Royalan 0.2 kg per square metre.
Unpainted Lime Render
Follow the general preparation guidelines.
Specific considerations for unpainted lime render
Any newly lime rendered/repaired areas must be allowed to dry out for a minimum period of 28 days and to have carbonated to a minimum depth of 2.5mm prior to application of Keim Mineral Paints.
Application
For unpainted lime render first apply a coat of Keim Royalan Dilution using a brush or roller to work it well into the surface, this will help reduce any high surface porosity.
After a minimum of 12 hours, apply a coat of Keim Royalan diluted with approximately 20% (by weight) of Keim Royalan dilution. Again work will into the surface
After a further 12 hours apply an undiluted coat of Keim Royalan.
Typical consumption rates for unpainted lime render
First Coat
Keim Royalan Dilution 0.15 lt per square metre
Second Coat
Keim Royalan 0.2 kg per square metre
Keim Royalan Dilution 0.04 lt per square metre
Third Coat
Keim Royalan 0.2 kg per square metre.
Smooth Limewashed Render
Follow the general preparation guidelines.

Roughcast Render surfaces / Pebbledash
Follow the general preparation guidelines.
Specific considerations for Roughcast / Pebbledash surfaces
Any newly rendered/repaired areas must be allowed to dry out for a minimum period of 15 days.
Application
Prime any new/bare lime render using the Royalan Dilution, applied neat by brush and worked well into the surface. Avoid contact with previously painted surfaces and allow a minimum period of 12 hours before proceeding.
Apply 2 coats of Keim Royalan using a brush, roller or airless sprayer leaving at least 12 hours between coats:
- Dilute the first coat with approx. 20% (by Weight) of Keim Royalan Dilution
- Dilute the second coat with approx. 5% (by weight) of Keim Royalan Dilution
Typical consumption rates for Roughcast / Pebbledash surfaces
