Sometimes boards or old lime plasters are too smooth or too "thirsty" to achieve a good finish when skimming with lime plaster. The Lime Green Solo Primer helps control the high levels of suction and provides a gritty key for the plaster to stick to, but unlike PVA it is as breathable and durable as lime and won't form a plastic film, sealing in damp. Once primed you can skim over the primer using the Lime Green Solo lime plaster.
Some typical substrate types:
- Masonry backgrounds
- Magnesium silicate boards
- Old lime plasters and new plasters (lime, cement or gypsum)
- Stone
- Wood, and wood type boards
- Terracotta and some ceramic tiles and paints.
Coverage: Approximately 2m² per kg.
Drying Times: Curing takes 2-24 hours depending on thickness of application, temperature and humidity. Allow 24 hours before applying suitable plasters such as Lime Green Solo.
Please note that the Solo Primer is not suitable for glossy paints or plastic backgrounds. A testing facility for bond strength is offered by the manufacturer if you have specific requirements. Please contact us for more details.
Preparation
- Ensure substrates are clean, dry and free from loose material prior to application.
- We highly recommend testing a small area to ensure compatibility with your specific substrate.
- Protect surrounding surfaces, particularly glass.
- Do not use or store in temperatures below 5C or exceeding 30C
Application
- Stir well before use
- Apply with a broad brush using broad strokes ensuring grit is evenly spread across the surface
- For areas where the surface is powdery or friable work the primer in to the affected areas with a brush and test bond strength after 24 hours.
- For areas of particularly problematic or high absorption substrates its recommended to use the Silic8 penetrating primer PS1 or PS2.

Solo Primer is the only plaster primer on the market to be independently tested by audited facilities Sheffield Hallam University and PRA coatings for vapour diffusion to reassure you that water vapour is not trapped in the fabric of your building. This natural mineral and water-glass primer is free from any co-binders such as solvents, gypsum and cement.
