Treatex External Oak is designed as a base coat to treat tannin rich timbers such as Oak and Idigbo. Suitable for use both externally and internally, External Oak has a high class finish leaving wood with a natural finish. 2 Coats of Treatex UV Oil - External UV Protection are needed to complete the finish.
Treatex External Oak comes in two colour choices; Virgin Oak and Recency. The Virgin Oak will give a "light" oak effect, while Recency is similar to a "medium" oak colour.
Manufactured on a base of sustainable raw materials which include sunflower oil, safflower oil and soybean oil, Treatex External Oak also contains modified alkyd resin, linseed oil and waxes. There is also an addition of siccatives to speed up drying times.

Preparation
- Treatex External Oak is designed for use on unfinished timber. Previous finishes that will stop penetration of the oil into the wood or that are flaking must be fully removed before application.
- Surfaces should be sanded with 100-120 grit sandpaper and if possible external sharp edges should be rounded to approx 3-5mm radius.
- Timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the ambient temperature must be greater than 8oC whilst applying the oil. Moisture of the wood can be tested with a good wood moisture meter.
- We strongly recommend that you try a test application prior to starting the project.
Application
- Stir the tins thoroughly.
- Use a brush or roller to apply Treatex External Oak thinly and evenly in the same direction as the wood grain.
- Pay particular attention to end grain by adding extra oil whilst the finish is still wet.
- Leave to dry for approximately 12 hours then apply 2 coats of Treatex UV Oil.
