Treatex Teak Protection is an external wood finish designed for use on teak and similar timbers. It is perfect for garden furniture, boat decks and other exterior joinery.

The oil penetrates the surface of the timber attaching to the wood capillaries to provide superior protection against extreme climate conditions.
Manufactured on a base of sustainable raw materials which include sunflower oil, safflower oil and soybean oil, Treatex Teak Protection is the perfect choice for you and the environment.

Please be aware that Treatex Teak Protection is not suitable for tannin rich woods such as Oak. For timbers high in tannins, we recommend Treatex External Oak and Treatex External Oak Protection.

Drying Time: 12 hours (approx)

Usage

Suitable for: Internal and external use

Recommended timbers: Teak and Iroko

Applications: Garden furniture and boat decks

Preparation

  • Treatex Teak Protection is designed for use on unfinished timber. Previous finishes that will stop penetration or are flaking must be fully removed before application.
  • If the timber is grey and weathered then it should be sanded back or cleaned with Treatex Wood Rejuvenator. This will restore the natural colour of the wood before application of Teak Protection.
  • Ensure the wood is dry and free from contaminants like algae, grease and dirt.
  • Timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the ambient temperature must be greater than 8oC whilst applying the oil. Moisture of the wood can be tested with a good wood moisture meter.
  • We strongly recommend that you try a test application prior to starting the project.

Application

  • Stir container thoroughly before and during use.
  • Use a brush or roller to apply Treatex Teak Protection thinly and evenly in the same direction as the wood grain.
  • This product works best when the second coat is applied ‘wet on wet’. This means a second coat must be applied, in the same way as above, before the first coat is dry. If the wood soaks the Protector in quickly, a third coat will be needed.
  • After the second coat, leave to dry for approx 12 hours to dry completely unless the teak absorbs into the second coat easily, in which case,
  • Apply a third coat before the second coat has dried and then leave to dry completely for 12 hours.

Note: Teak protection has to be applied to the point of saturation and to be reapplied before it even starts to dry. Providing this is done you will get long term protection against the rain and sun with good UV protection as well.

How to apply Treatex Teak Protection

This video demonstrates how Treatex Teak Protection is applied to a Teak table.

Insider Tips

  • When treating multiple pieces of garden furniture e.g. a table and chairs, only treat 2 pieces at a time to ensure that the first coat cannot dry fully before applying the second wet on wet coat.
  • We recommend a fresh coat is applied once a year.
  • Treatex brushes and rollers are available.
  • Wet brushes and rollers can be cleaned with warm soapy water.
  • Store tins in a cool and frost free environment. Unopened tins will last for three years. Once tins are opened, transfer contents to smaller, airtight container.
