TRUEWOOL® is the first 100% wool insulation made from 100% British sheep wool. In fact, the wool is entirely from Welsh Mountain sheep that live in Wales.
The provenance for this loft insulation is 100% known. Wool Insulation Wales Ltd purchase the fleeces that make the wool for their loft insulation through the Welsh Wool traceability scheme run by British Wool (formerly the British Wool Marketing Board).
The washed fleeces are treated with borax (an natural insect repellent) and machine needle felted into 10m lengths of 50mm deep insulation. All the processes are done in Britain. To increase the depth of the TrueWool loft insulation, simply double or triple up the wool as you lay it between the joists.
TRUEWOOL® does smell a little "sheepy" when you first unwrap it from its packaging, but once aired the smell dissipates.

Did you know that wool fibre helps manage dampness, humidity and moisture?
Managing dampness, humidity, and moisture is crucial to maintain the health of a building and its occupants. Wool fibre has a hydrophobic exterior that doesn't feel wet, while the interior is hygroscopic, meaning it can absorb moisture vapour during high humidity and release it as heat during low humidity. By using hygroscopic materials like wool fibre, you can regulate humidity levels within your building effectively. This water moisture regulation can help lower energy demand and, in turn, further reduce costs (it takes more energy to heat damp air).
Sheep wool insulation is fully breathable and can manage the conditions of both old and new buildings. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for insulation to maintain a healthy environment in your building.
